Wines tasted

1. Gruner Vertliner, Autentische 2017 (Barrel sample)
Some ‘funk’ on the nose.
Much more restrained in mouth.
I had the impression that it would change over time in the glass.

2. Weissburgunder Autentische 2017 (Barrel sample)
Reminded me of Reisling, but actually Pinot Blanc
A lot calmer nose than first wine (Grapefruit aromas)
Fresh vibrant wine

3. Welschriesling Maischevergoren 2016 (Orange Wine)
40 year old vineyard
Grown on limestone
2 weeks on skins
Already bottled and will spend a year in the bottle before release.
This is their ‘orange wine for beginners’

4. Gemischter Satz 2016
1934 vineyard
Harvested from mixed vineyard on variable soil
2 weeks on skins
Vibrant colour

5. Rosé Autentische. 2017. Zweigelt, St Lauren, Blaufränkisch, Pinot Noir and Syrah (barrel sample)
Not produced every year.
Not pressed, fermented in steel tank
Vibrant colour. Great balance

6. Zweigelt Autentische 2016.
3 – 4 weeks on skins.
2,000L old acacia and oak barrels.

7. Rot Autentische no 3. 2015.
3 – 4 weeks on skins.
Maria told me ‘it was nothing special’ but that made it special. It is a pleasant surprise.

8. Zweigelt (unfiltered) 2015.
500L barrels
Bottled in August 2017

9. Blaufränkisch (unfiltered) 2015 (single vineyard).
25 years old vineyard
Bottled in August 2017

10. Syrah 2015.
Not much syrah planted in the area
Nose: subtle.
Mouth: Elegant, juicy, fruity

11. Pretty Nuts 2017. Blaufränkisch
Bottled early in fermentation and all Alexander Koppitsch Pet Nats are disgorged.
Fun colour and taste
